INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Lilly charities have donated more than $1 million to help the Red Cross respond to needs in the wake of Hurricane Sandy and other disasters.

The Red Cross expressed thanks for the gifts Tuesday. The Lilly Endowment has given $1 million to the organization’s national headquarters, and the Eli Lilly & Co. Foundation has given $200,000.

"We are grateful for the historic partnership between the senior leadership at Lilly and their commitment to helping the American public respond to natural and man-made disasters," said John Lyter, CEO of the Red Cross (Indiana).
