INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - In an effort to make more money for the state,  a private company could be awarded a contract to run the Hoosier Lottery.

The Lottery Commission requested bids from private vendors in May, and the bidding period closed at the end of August.

On Wednesday, members of the State Lottery Commission, who evaluated the proposals, could make a recommendation whether to enter into a contract with one of the private vendors.

If the commission isn't satisfied with any of the bids, they can decide not to privatize at all.

Hoosier Lottery Executive Director Karl Browning said the goal in privatizing is for the lottery to make more money than if the state were running the lottery.

If a contract is awarded at Wednesday’s meeting, folks who play the lottery will also likely have answers as to what changes will be made and how much money is expected for the state.

The meeting is scheduled for 930 a.m. at the lottery’s Indianapolis headquarters.
