MUNSTER, Ind. (AP) - Police in northwestern Indiana say a man was arrested in connection with the beating death of a woman after a SWAT team surrounded the home where the attack happened.
The Lake County coroner's office says 33-year-old Erica Veldinia of Chicago died Tuesday from head injuries suffered at a Munster home.
Munster police tell The Times and the Post-Tribune that arriving officers found a man outside saying he had been attacked by his girlfriend's estranged husband who was still inside and possibly armed.
Police say the man barricaded himself inside and wouldn't talk to officers but later surrendered to the SWAT team. Veldinia was found injured inside the home, but she was soon pronounced dead at a hospital.
Police said charges were pending against the arrested man.
