TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - A car erupted in flames after it crashed into a house.
It happened around 2:45 Friday morning at 1838 South 7th Street in Terre Haute.
The driver was trapped inside his burning car until two people who lived nearby helped pull him out.
Reportedly, one of the rescuers went back inside his house to get a fire extinguisher; however, he said by the time he came back out, the fire was just too big.
Police are interviewing witnesses, but we're told one of those witnesses saw the car traveling about 70 miles-an-hour just before the crash.
We can only tell you that paramedics said the victim was taken to Regional Hospital.
The house that was hit received heavy damage to the front porch.
The driver of the crash has been pronounced dead.
Vigo County Coroner Dr. Roland Kohr said the driver of the car, Angel Vargas, 23, died of blunt force trauma to the head and chest.
Toxicology results are pending.
