Man enters plea in school meth-making case

PRINCETON, Ind. (AP) - A southern Indiana man accused of making methamphetamine inside a school where he worked as a custodian has reached a proposed plea agreement.

The Princeton Daily Clarion reports that Michael C. Shafer tentatively pleaded guilty last week to knowingly making meth on Dec. 21, 2011. A Gibson County judge scheduled a Feb. 26 hearing on the Oakland City man's plea.

Shafer's proposed plea calls for a Class A felony charge of making meth within 1,000 feet of a school to be reduced to a B felony and would dismiss lesser felony counts that include possession of meth.

Shafer was arrested after authorities found an explosion-prone "one-pot" method of making meth in a storage area on the main campus of the East Gibson School Corporation in Oakland City.
