FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Officials say firefighters rescued a man who fell through the ice of a Fort Wayne pond while trying to reach his dog.
The Fire Department says a diver wearing an ice-rescue suit crawled Tuesday out to the man who was clinging to the ice about 70 feet from shore. The diver pulled the man from the water and other crew members then brought the diver and the man to the shore of the small lake on the city's south side.
The man told officials he was trying to rescue the dog that fell through the ice before he did.
The Journal Gazette and WANE-TV report the man and the dog weren't seriously hurt.
