SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - A homeless man concedes that when a woman walked into a South Bend bar and asked if he had found her lost diamond, his first thought was he probably wouldn't have told her if he had.
But James Ippolito told WNDU-TV that when he actually spotted the diamond on the floor of Vickie's Bar on Wednesday evening, he picked it up and handed it to Brenda Johnson.
Johnson had spent hours retracing her steps after her diamond fell from her wedding ring and was in tears.
When Ippolito spotted the diamond, his first thought was he could really use the money. But he said returning it was the right thing to do.
Johnson plans to reward Ippolito with a $100 reward.
