GOSHEN, Ind. (AP) - A northern Indiana man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole on a conviction of killing a 23-year-old neighbor by stabbing her more than 50 times.

Thirty-one-year-old Tyrice Halliburton maintained his innocence in the 2008 attack at a Bristol apartment building when he spoke to a judge during Thursday's sentencing hearing.

The Goshen News and Elkhart Truth report jurors convicted Halliburton of murder for the attack on Sheena Kiska that authorities say happened when Kiska found Halliburton burglarized her family's apartment for the second time in about a month.

The judge rejected Halliburton's claims of innocence, saying he was to blame for the horrible crime.

Kiska's family says she wanted to move after the first burglary but couldn't afford to pay the penalty of three months' rent.
