MISHAWAKA, Ind. (AP) - A 22-year-old man has died after police say he was pulled unconscious from the pool at a northern Indiana apartment complex.

Mishawaka police say the man was pronounced dead at a hospital Wednesday evening.

Lenora Smith tells the South Bend Tribune that she performed CPR on the man as his brother tried to call for help from the pool's emergency phone. Smith says that phone wasn't working and she had to get her sister to call 911 from her cellphone.

She says the pool doesn't have lifeguards and is frustrated the emergency phone was broken.

The victim's name wasn't immediately released.
