Man retrieves guns seized when arrested

HAMMOND, IN. (AP) -  A northwest Indiana man cleared of the federal charges of sedition against him has retrieved the weapons and ammunition seized from him when he was arrested two years ago.

The Times of Munster reports Thomas Piatek of Hammond went to the Hammond Police Department on Friday to retrieve his belongings.

Piatek was one of seven members of a Michigan militia group called Hutaree charged with conspiring to commit sedition, or rebellion.

Piatek was cleared of all charges by a federal judge in March.

Piatek's attorney, Arthur Weiss, said the dismissal of the charges is a win for First Amendment rights.

He wouldn't discuss whether a civil lawsuit might be brought.

But Piatek hinted that something is planned, saying "it is not over."
