SEYMOUR, Ind. (WISH) - Indiana State Police have confirmed that the body was found near Interstate 65 and U.S. 50 in Seymour is that of the suspect in Monday's shoot-out with a trooper , and that preliminary investigation indicated an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Indiana State Police Sgt. Noel Houze said an ISP helicopter searching the area discovered the body of John Michael Fish, 35, near railroad tracks Wednesday afternoon on the east side of the city. The body was found in “an extremely remote area,” ISP said.
The site of the discovery was not far from the area troopers were searching for Fish, who they said had exchanged gunfire with a trooper Monday night .
Jackson County coroner officials had been called to the scene. 24-Hour News 8 news partner The Republic of Columbus reports an autopsy is scheduled Friday in Louisville to officially determine cause of death.
Houze also told the newspaper no evidence found at the scene Wednesday led them to believe Fish had been struck by a trooper's bullet.
