GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - The father of a U.S. Marine who grew up in Indiana and Michigan says his son has been killed while on foot patrol in Afghanistan by an improvised explosive device.
David DeBoer of Valparaiso, Ind., says 24-year-old Cpl. Daane Adam DeBoer died Friday.
Daane DeBoer was born in Valparaiso and attended Immanuel Lutheran School through sixth grade before moving to the Grand Rapids area. His father says his son lived in Rockford until graduating from high school.
His mother Charlene Zerrenner of Ludington, Mich., says her son loved the Lord, his family and his country.
The family requested privacy. Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Service in Grand Rapids was handling arrangements.
The Defense Department on Monday morning hadn't released information about DeBoer.
