WASHINGTON (WISH) - Michigan firm Byron Center Wholesale Meats is recalling 6,586 pounds of ham products that were distributed throughout Michigan and Indiana.

Officials say the products were produced without a hazard analysis and critical control points plan (HACCP). HACCP plans help companies identify potential hazards associated with a product and are required for all products.

The recalled products have the establishment number "Est. 2592" inside the USDA mark of inspection and were produced before March 1, 2013.

Officials discovered the problem when an inspector found a worker making sliced and diced ham products from whole hams. The hams were labeled as fully cooked, but the company does not have a HACCP plan.

Further investigation revealed other products produced without HACCP plans.

The following products are subject to recall:

  • Various weight packages of "Seven Sons Family Farms & Co." Diced Ham (fully cooked), Smoked Ham Sliced (ready to cook/fully cooked) and Smoked Ham Roast (ready to cook/fully cooked).
  • Various weight packages of "Heffron Farms" Diced Ham (ready to cook), Smoked Ham Sliced (ready to cook), Smoked Ham Roast(ready to cook), Ground Ham Smoked Pork, Smoked Ham Hocks (ready to cook) and Picnic Hams (ready to cook).
  • Various weight packages of "Byron Center Meats" Semi Boneless Ham (ready to cook), Canadian Bacon (not fully cooked), Smoked Ham Hocks, Smoked Pork Chops (ready to cook) and Smoked Picnic Hams.

The company has not received any complaints of illness at this time. Anyone concerned for their health should contact their healthcare provider.

Please visit the Food Safety and Inspection Service website for more information on this recall.
