FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - A northeastern Indiana woman faces charges alleging that she practiced midwifery without a license and helped deliver two infants last year that later died.
Barbara S. Parker of St. Joe faces three felony counts of practicing midwifery without a license, charges that stem from deliveries she performed in early August.
Court documents state that on Aug. 3 Parker helped deliver a baby that later died at a hospital. Four days later, Parker allegedly served as a midwife for a woman delivering twins, one of which died after it had to be delivered through cesarean section at a hospital.
The Journal Gazette reports Parker told investigators she has averaged 60 to 70 deliveries a year over the past five years. She was released from jail Saturday after posting pond.
