SALEM, Ind. (AP) - A new bypass is taking motorists around the southern Indiana city of Salem.
The Indiana Department of Transportation says contractors opened the bypass to traffic Friday afternoon. The highway stretches nearly four miles to the south and east of the Washington County city about 30 miles northwest of Louisville, Ky.
The bypass is limited access with bridges over three roads, a railroad and the west fork of Blue River. Motorists will only be able to enter or exit the bypass at Indiana 60 or at either end with Indiana 135 and Indiana 56.
