HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) - A new pedestrian bridge over a northwestern Indiana lake and connecting Hammond and Whiting is winning recognition.
The new Lake George Pedestrian Bridge has been honored as a 2012 Outstanding Transportation Project by the Indiana Metropolitan Planning Organization Council.
The Times of Munster reports that Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission director John Swanson presented the award to Hammond Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr. during Thursday's commission meeting.
The development authority paid for the bridge with a $4 million grant. The span opened last spring.
