SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Some residents of the University of Notre Dame's married student apartment complex are worried the school's plan to move a busy road that crosses part of campus in an effort to improve safety is just shifting the danger closer to where they live.
University Village resident Sarah Elliott tells the South Bend Tribune the proposal isn't safer for student families. The group is asking St. Joseph County Council to postpone considering approving the plan until safety issues are addressed.
The proposal to move Douglas Road north to near the 100-unit apartment complex where about 180 adults and 100 children live is scheduled for a Dec. 4 public hearing.
Notre Dame spokesman Tim Sexton says university officials have made some plan changes after hearing from the public.
