NW Ind. mall ups police after shooting

HOBART, Ind. (AP) — Authorities have beefed up the police presence at a northwestern Indiana shopping mall where a fight among teenagers led to gunfire a couple weeks ago.
Officials say the increased number of police officers and security guards for the holiday shopping season is part of a zero tolerance policy for misconduct at the Westfield Southlake mall in Hobart.
Hobart Assistant Police Chief Vance Thompson spent part of the weekend patrolling the mall in street clothes, watching for any trouble. Thompson tells The Times of Munster that as long as people behave they won't be bothered.
Mall marketing director Lisa DeVries says its partnership with police includes training and a substation in the mall.
No one was injured in the Nov. 10 shooting and four teenage boys were arrested.
