NW Ind. school still cold inside despite repairs

GARY, Ind. (AP) - A privately operated turnaround school in northwestern Indiana remains plagued by chilly classrooms despite efforts to fix its faulty heating system.
The Roosevelt College and Career Academy was closed for four consecutive days late last month because of heating problems.
A judge has ruled that the Gary Community School Corp. and not the Gary school's private operator must make all repairs to its heating system.
The school is one of five academically troubled Indiana schools taken over by the state and turned over to private groups. It's run by Tennessee-based EdisonLearning Inc.
EdisonLearning vice president of operations Vanessa Ronketto tells The Times of Munster that 12 of the school's classrooms are below 65 degrees. She says students in the coldest classrooms can keep their coats on.
