FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - President Barack Obama has appointed former northeastern Indiana congresswoman and gubernatorial nominee Jill Long Thompson to lead the Farm Credit Administration as chairwoman and chief executive officer.
The Journal Gazette reports Obama appointed Thompson on Wednesday.
He appointed the 60-year-old Thompson to a six-year term on the Farm Credit Administration's full-time, three-member board in 2009. The FCA is an independent federal agency that regulates and examines the Farm Credit System, a network of lenders with nearly $240 billion in assets.
Thompson grew up on a Whitley County farm, and she and her husband have a farm in northern Indiana's Marshall County. She was the Democratic nominee for governor in 2008.
