OWENSBURG, Ind. (WISH) - Two police officers were shot Wednesday in Owensburg, in southwestern Indiana. The suspect was confirmed dead, police told 24-Hour News 8 news partner WTHI-TV.
One of the Greene County Sheriff's Department deputies was shot in the leg, and the other in the neck. Both were undergoing surgery Wednesday afternoon, WTHI reported. The officers were identified as Jim O'Malley and Brad Deckard. Both were taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital. Deckard was treated and released, and O'Malley was still in the hospital as of Wednesday evening, according to Indiana State Police.
Police believe the suspect, identified as Michael Lane Jr., 25, Owensburg, was shot during an exchange of gunfire between him and the officers, who were initially responding to a report of a domestic dispute.]
The investigation is ongoing.
