VERMILLION COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement stopped a box truck Wednesday morning that was carrying over 20,000 warm eggs.

Police stopped the 2009 International box truck that was heading southbound on SR 63 in Vermillion County for a routine food transportation safety inspection.

Upon the inspection, the state trooper found the truck’s refrigerator unit had been shut off.

State Police say the temperature of the 20,700 eggs varied from 58 to 59.9 degrees. Indiana law states that during transport, eggs cannot be warmer than 41 degrees.

The cargo was ordered destroyed by the Vermillion County Health Department at a local landfill. The driver of the truck was cited for violation of Indiana Food Transportation Law and released.
