NEW CASTLE, Ind. (WISH) - A parade was held Saturday in New Castle to honor the New Castle Little League Team that made it to the Little League World Series.

The team played in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa and won their opening game. They were eliminated from the tournament after losses to teams from Texas and Connecticut.

The team has been through an emotional time after losing their coach, Danny Smekens, to cancer.

Smekens was diagnosed with advanced colon cancer in 2005 and passed away in March of last year. The team remembered Smekens Saturday during the special program following the parade.

After the parade was a reception for the team at the city's Little League fields. New Castle's All-Stars also spent part of the season collecting baseball gear for a team from Uganda that plays barefoot.
