MARION, Ind. (WISH) - A pedestrian was struck and killed on the side of Interstate 69 Friday afternoon.
Indiana State Police say that around 1:30 p.m., 57-year-old Taquel Dayeh, from Westland, Michigan, was on the shoulder of northbound I-69 working under the hood of his semi-tractor.
Police say, for an unknown reason Dayeh stepped in front of the semi-tractor on the driver's side and was struck by a Jeep Cherokee.
The driver of the Jeep, 51-year-old Rodney Hunley, left the crash site.
Dayeh was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hunley reportedly drove to his home and had a friend drive him to the Van Buren Police Department an hour and a half later.
Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be involved.
Investigators are working to determine if a medical episode in Hunley could have played a role in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
