EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Police say a 79-year-old Evansville man fatally shot a 19-year-old man who was attacking his granddaughter.
Police say the younger man was arguing with a 17-year-old girl inside a house Sunday night when he chased her outside and started beating her. Witnesses told police that when the girl's grandfather tried to break up the attack, the younger man threatened to use a stun gun on him before the grandfather pulled out a handgun and fired a single shot.
The Evansville Courier & Press reports the younger man ran into a neighboring yard, where he collapsed and died.
No arrests were immediately made. Police say investigators will turn their report over to the county prosecutor's office for review.
The name of the man who died wasn't immediately released.
