Who's living at Durham's Geist mansion?

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Indicted Indianapolis businessman Tim Durham has to move back to Indiana by early April. That’s when he will face a federal judge in Indianapolis for the first time.

The agreement that let Durham leave a federal detention center in Los Angeles on a $1 million bond requires him to move back to the Indianapolis area.

First, he has to find somewhere to live.

24-Hour News 8’s Dave Barras went to Durham’s foreclosed Geist mansion to see if Durham could somehow move back there.

When the crew arrived, the gate to the nearly 11,000 square foot home overlooking the Geist Reservoir was open. In the front driveway, there was a portable fire pit.

24-Hour News 8 rang the bell, but no one answered.

One neighbor, Jennifer Pearlman, said she had seen something unusual at the home recently.

"While driving by I noticed a popup camper with somebody just hanging out in the yard.... and camping out in the yard for a few days," said Pearlman. "It was a camper and someone looked like they were living there or camping out for a few days.”

As 24-Hour News 8 prepared to leave, a dog began to bark and a man –-not Durham—came to the door and told the crew to leave.

The gate was then closed.

The real estate agent with the listing on the Durham home wouldn’t answer any questions about the property.

However, public records show that more then $60,000 in back property taxes on Durham’s’ mansion was paid by Chase bank. The mortgage stands at more that $3 million.

Durham’s first appearance in front of the federal judge in downtown Indianapolis is set for April 6.

A federal probation administrator said the judge will set the ground rules for Durham while he awaits trial.
