BLOOMFIELD, Ind. (AP) - Indiana transportation officials are encouraging communities along a new stretch of I-69 to come up with proposals to celebrate the highway's opening.
Indiana Department of Transportation spokeswoman Cher Elliott tells The Herald-Times the agency has met with community leaders along the corridor from Evansville to Greene County. The group plans to meet again in September to review proposals.
Elliott says she's heard talk of an I-69 tricycle race. Other ideas include runs, an antique-car cruise-in, dances and art shows.
Elliott says INDOT will supply the venue and make sure the area is safe for the planned events.
