JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (AP) - A preservation group is hoping to expand plans to relocate several historic homes in the path of an Ohio River bridge project.
A settlement agreement between preservation groups and Indiana and Kentucky officials calls for relocating five homes in Jeffersonville's historic district. Those homes had been slated for demolition for a new bridge between Jeffersonville and Louisville, Ky.
The director of the Indiana Landmarks Southern Regional Office tells the News and Tribune he would like three additional properties included in the relocation project. Greg Sekula of Indiana Landmarks says "there's an opportunity here to save these buildings."
A settlement between the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the conservation group River Fields Inc. and Indiana and Kentucky transportation officials dedicates $1.7 million to a historic preservation and enhancement fund.
