INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indiana's state advocate for utility consumers is urging the public to weigh in on proposed tree-trimming rules for the state's electric utilities.
The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission drafted the rules following long-running complaints about the way trees were being trimmed to keep power lines clear of tree limbs.
Indiana's Office of Utility Consumer Counselor is urging the public to attend the IURC's May 24 public hearing at downtown Indianapolis' PNC Center to offer comments on the proposed rules.
The rules include a requirement that investor-owned utilities notify affected customers with two notices about planned trimming projects at least two weeks before that work begins. Those notices must involve a written notice and a second notification either by telephone or a visit to the property.
