TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) — Author and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Isabel Wilkerson will speak Tuesday at Indiana State University as part of the school's celebration of the 40th anniversary of its African-American studies program.
Wilkerson is the author of "The Warmth of Other Suns," a detailed history of the great migration of blacks from the South to the big cities of the north. She interviewed more than 1,200 people for the book.
Wilkerson won a Pulitzer in 1994 for feature writing while she was The New York Times' Chicago bureau chief. She won for her profile of a fourth-grader from Chicago's South Side and two stories on the Midwestern floods.
She'll speak Tuesday at the school's University Hall Theater as part of the University Speakers Series.
