WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Purdue University's trustees have approved an acting president to lead the school until Gov. Mitch Daniels becomes its president in January.

The Board of Trustees voted unanimously Friday to make provost Tim Sands the interim president. He takes the place of France Cordova, who stepped down this month after five years as president. Sands has been Purdue's No. 2 administrator for the past three years.

The Journal & Courier reports the board also ratified longtime Purdue administrator Vic Lechtenberg as acting executive vice president for academic affairs and provost until Sands returns to that position in about six months.

The Purdue trustees approving hiring Daniels as the new president last month. The governor didn't attend Friday's board meeting.
