ELKHART, IN. (AP) - A shrine to the recreational vehicle industry that had been in jeopardy of closing because of declining donations has a smoother road ahead thanks to debt restructuring and support from the rebounding industry.
The RV/MV Hall of Fame in Elkhart, Ind., houses more than four dozen vintage RVs and campers.
The collection of rare vehicles includes a 1931 Chevrolet Housecar that Paramount Studios had built to help lure Mae West out of vaudeville and into movies.
The hall began as a list of honorees in a file cabinet and has expanded over the years.
It now showcases its collection in a 55,000-square-foot building off the Indiana Toll Road.
More than 13,000 people visited the museum in 2011, but financial problems had threatened its survival until organizers reached the financial deal.
