JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (AP) - A southern Indiana man faces felony charges alleging that he severely beat another man with a piece of lumber while several people stood by watching.

Thirty-nine-year-old Damon Arnold of New Albany was charged with battery and several other felony counts in last week's attack that left the victim with facial cuts and bruises and severe swelling in his jaw, ribs and lower back.

Investigators say Arnold drove to the victim's house and asked for help moving firewood. He then allegedly led the victim to a garage, where four to five other men surrounded the man and prevented him from escaping.

Clark County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Jeremy Mull tells WLKY-TV that Arnold beat the victim "pretty viciously with this 2-by-4" and threatened to burn him alive in a furnace.
