NEW ALBANY, Ind. (AP) - A southern Indiana man arrested in February in his wife's unsolved 1990 slaying has been convicted of murder in her death.

A Floyd County jury deliberated for nearly seven hours Friday before finding 54-year-old Christopher Baxter guilty of murder in the June 1990 killing of 31-year-old Robin Baxter, whose remains were found in the Ohio River four days after she vanished.

The News and Tribune reports  Baxter will be sentenced Aug. 7.

During Baxter's trial, prosecutors argued Robin Baxter was killed following an alcohol-fueled fight between the couple spurred by Christopher Baxter's disapproval of a spaghetti dinner his wife had prepared.

Defense attorney William Gray said Robin Baxter was killed after she became extremely intoxicated following that dispute and walked away from the couple's New Albany home.
