SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Employees of South Bend schools could soon have an on-site health clinic where they can receive medical care.
The South Bend Tribune reports the school board is considering opening the clinic and obtaining a new insurance carrier.
Details about the clinic are still being discussed, but district human resources director Curt Novotny says it's necessary to hold down premiums.
Novotny says an on-site clinic could save money by reducing the number of expensive emergency room visits and promoting wellness.
He says employees could see lower premiums but might face higher out-of-pocket expenses.
Officials say many governmental agencies are moving to on-site clinics as health insurance costs rise across the country.
