BROWNSTOWN (WISH) - The subject of a search by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police and DNR Wednesday morning has been found.
Authorities said the woman apparently became separated from a friend she was hiking with after midnight. Deputies said when the 24-year-old woman didn't return, the man, also 24, reported her missing to police at about 2 a.m., and a search was launched. About 40 people were involved in the search of the wooded area surrounding Knob Lake east of Brownstown, as was an ISP helicopter.
According to Jackson County Sheriff's Department, the woman was able to make her way to a camp and went into a cabin to get out of the 15 degree weather. As daylight arrived, she continued on until she came across a house, where she was able to let authorities know she was OK.
She complained of some numbness to her legs and was checked out by ambulance personnel. The search was called off around 8:15 a.m.
