DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - A second person has died after a head-on crash Friday morning on State Road 1 in DeKalb County.

Indiana State Police said Aiyana Mills, 13, of Fort Wayne, was a passenger in the backseat of one of the vehicles.

The crash happened around 8:30 a.m. Friday. Police said a 1993 Lincoln two-door car driven by Melissa A. Mills, 33, of Fort Wayne and a 1996 Jeep SUV driven by Ashley L. Crow, 28, of Saint Joe, collided head-on in a curve on State Road 1 just north of County Road 72, which is the Allen/DeKalb County Line.

Mills’ front seat passenger, Ryan K. Turner, 45, of Butler died at the scene. Police said Turner was wearing a seatbelt, but his injuries were too severe to survive the crash. Aiyana Mills was in the back seat of that car. She was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital on Friday in critical condition. She died early Saturday afternoon from her injuries. It's not known if she was wearing a seatbelt or not.

Melissa Mills had a head injury and Crow had internal injuries. They were both taken to a Fort Wayne hospital, but their conditions aren't known.

Because of discrepancies in driver accounts and witness statements, Indiana State Police Crash Reconstructionists were called to assist in the investigation. Their findings are still pending.

State Road 1 between the County Line and County Road 68 was closed for about four hours Friday during the investigation and crash clean up.

DeKalb County EMS, Spencerville, Concord Township and Garret Fire Departments also assisted at the scene.
