INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - An Indiana lawmaker wants to train school staff to identify and report child sex abuse.

Gary Democratic Sen. Earline Rogers said Tuesday that school teachers and administrators may be best positioned to identify children who are sometimes abused in their own homes.

Rogers' proposal would mandate the Indiana Department of Education develop a curriculum for students to help them talk about abuse. It would also have teachers work with groups that help victims of sexual abuse.

The measure is named "Erin's Law" after Erin Merryn, who was abused as a child and is now campaigning for increased protections.
