Slain officer's dog up for award

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WISH) - Shadow, the police dog whose partner, Terre Haute Police Department Officer Brent Long was killed in July, is in the running for a national award.

Shadow is among 16 law enforcement and arson dogs who are nominated for the 2012 American Hero Dog Awards, presented by the American Humane Association.

Long was killed as officers served a warrant . Shadow was also shot and injured. The suspect who fired at police, Shaun Seeley, was also killed.

Shadow was later retired .

Finalists in each of the eight categories will compete for the grand prize of American Hero Dog.
