AUBURN, Ind. (AP) - Hundreds of people turned out to pay their respects to the family of a northeastern Indiana soldier who was killed in Afghanistan.
Many of 23-year-old Army Sgt. JaBraun Knox's mourners hugged as they arrived Monday at an Auburn funeral home, where WANE-TV reports the line of people stretched far outside the door.
Knox and another soldier were killed May 18 by enemy rocket fire that Afghan officials say also killed three civilians. Knox was married with an infant son. His funeral is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon in Auburn, followed by a procession to a Fort Wayne cemetery.
Knox's calling hours came just after the city's Memorial Day service. American Legion Post 97 Commander Tom Emerick tells The Star of Auburn that Knox's recent death gave the ceremony greater significance.
