INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The owner of the stage that collapsed at Indiana's State Fair last year has rejected a settlement plan that would have protected the state from further legal action.
Mid-America Sound spokeswoman Myra Borshoff Cook released a statement Wednesday saying the 51 claimants out of 62 who agreed to the deal earlier this month isn't enough. Estates representing three women who died in the collapse rejected it.
Attorney General Greg Zoeller had proposed a joint settlement with Mid-America and the stage's manufacturer in which victims would have settled their claims for shares of $6 million from the state and $7.2 million from the companies.
The state attorney general says that it will begin distributing the 6-million dollars before the January 2013 deadline.
