JASPER, Ind. (AP) - Indiana residents have turned in more than 1,500 pounds of unwanted medicines to be disposed of by state police.

Most state police posts and several other sites accepted unused and expired medications on Saturday as part of the fourth nationwide "Prescription Drug Take Back" initiative sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration. The DEA estimates that it disposed of 276 tons of unwanted medicines.

During the previous Drug Take Back held last October, Indiana State Police collected more than 1,800 pounds of medications.
