The Indiana State Department of Health answered charges Monday that it waited a week to notify the public after learning six clinics in the state had received tainted back pain medication linked to an outbreak of fungal meningitis.
On Monday, the number of Indiana meningitis cases rose to 45 . Three people have died as a result of tainted steroid injections at Indiana clinics.
In a statement Monday, the department of health said, our "...primary focus was to contact health care providers and clinics first so they could contact patients." The statement said, "At no time was there any risk to the general public in the outbreak."
