INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - To fight the cold, doctors say folks should dress in layers and cover noses, ears and fingertips. Frostbite, they say, can set in in as few as 10 minutes.
Also, experts say people should keep an eye on their cars.

Car batteries that struggle in average temperatures will have trouble working in the extreme cold. Winter weather puts extra pressure on a car’s oil and filter, so it's important to keep oil changes up to date.
Temperatures this cold can also be trouble for tires, so have the pressure checked. Mechanics suggest keeping the tire pressure reading at 35.
For inside the home, window covers and door shoes cut down on drafts. Prices for each range from $5-15.
