INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Hoosier businesses and organizations say this year might be better for students to find summer jobs.
24-Hour News 8 Anchor Walter Allen spoke with the Indiana Parks and Recreation Association, whose members represent a large portion of seasonal employers. They say their members believe there will be more leisure money spent at pools and golf courses this summer, meaning hiring is slightly up from last year.
The executive director of the association, Chris Owens, also says that his members are looking for young people who are good with customers.
"You should be looking for a way to get your foot in the door. A good way to do that is to demonstrate that you have had some leadership responsibility in the past,” Owens said. “And customer service is a big thing that a lot of our members are big on. If you can demonstrate that you can communicate with people and exceed their expectations, that will go a long way.”
WISH-TV partners Inside Indiana Business say big summer employers like Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari have been sifting through thousands of applications since February to fill about 2,100 openings.
