INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The suspect in Sunday’s alleged rape in Greenwood, Shawn Corbally, was taken into custody on Tuesday.
Police say 33-year-old Corbally has a history of sex crimes.
In 2000, he was convicted of rape in Marion County.
He was released from prison for that conviction in February 2012.
But his most recent arrest was two weeks ago , July 21, in Indianapolis.
IMPD says he attacked a woman in an apartment complex laundry room on E. Washington St.
In that case he was accused of sexual battery, criminal confinement and strangulation.
But the Marion County Prosecutor's Office never filed charges in that case, and Corbally was released from jail last Tuesday, July 24th.
Then, five days later, Corbally allegedly committed the latest rape at an apartment in Greenwood.
“This type of crime gets a lot of people worried, police worried,” Greenwood Assistant Police Chief Matthew Fillenwarth said. “This guy is a predator.”
One key to the Greenwood case is the victim's account of her attacker.
She told police about noticeable tattoos he has, including bricks on his arm and a tiger tail on his leg. Those match tattoos Corbally has based on booking photos obtained by 24-Hour News 8.
After she picked him out of a lineup, Corbally was arrested at a Greenwood gas station on Tuesday.
He’s now facing felony charges, including rape, burglary and confinement.
24-Hour News 8 will continue to look into why the Marion County Prosecutors Office did not file charges in the case from July 2012.
