SW Ind. county gets $1M for drug treatment program

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - A southwestern Indiana county is getting nearly $1 million to expand its successful drug treatment court programs.
The financial boost from grants and state reimbursements will allow Vanderburgh County to nearly double the size of its court drug-treatment programs.
Although the programs are open to offenders with all forms of substance abuse, methamphetamine abuse accounts for most of the participants' drug programs.
Court statistic show that the highly-addictive drug was abused by 72 percent of the programs' participants.
Vanderburgh Superior Court Judge David Kiely tells the Evansville Courier & Press the added staffing the money will bring will allow the court programs to help higher risk participants from becoming repeat offenders.
