PORTAGE, Ind. (AP) - Boats and divers have been on Lake Michigan searching for a 15-year-old northwestern Indiana boy who went missing while swimming with three friends.
Indiana conservation officer Gene Davis says the area of Lake Michigan where Corey McFry of Portage went missing Sunday evening was under a rip current advisory at the time. Davis says McFry there were 4-foot waves at Portage Lakeshore Park when McFry either stepped off a sandbar or was knocked off and went under water. Two friends looked for McFry while another went to shore to call 911.
Davis says boats from the Department of Natural Resources and the Portage Fire Department were on the scene Monday and divers entered the water midmorning after waves subsided.
