ELKHART, Ind. (AP) - Thousands of recreational dealers from around the nation and Canada are descending on a northern Indiana city for an RV industry open house.
Hundreds of people showed up Monday in Elkhart in anticipation of Tuesday's start of RV Open House Week. Organizers expect thousands of people to attend the show, which runs through Thursday.
Paul Campbell of Gulf Stream tells The Elkhart Truth he's gratified so many people showed up early to see the RVs on display.
The Recreational Vehicle Industry Association says RV sales between January and July were up nearly 10 percent over last year. Nearly 178,000 RVs had been shipped to retailers through July. Mark Bowersox of Indiana's RV trade group says more than 80 percent of those vehicles were made in the Elkhart area.
