CLARKSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - A southern Indiana town is trying to organize a legal challenge to planned tolls for the Interstate 65 bridges over the Ohio River.
Those tolls are part of the financing plan for building a new I-65 bridge and rehabbing the existing bridge into downtown Louisville, Ky., and building a bridge for I-265 east of the city.
The News and Tribune and The Courier-Journal report the Clarksville Town Council voted this week to dedicate $10,000 toward filing a lawsuit. Councilman Paul Fetter argues I-65 doesn't currently have tolls and that adding the charge will hurt businesses in Clarksville and neighboring Jeffersonville.
The Jeffersonville council is to discuss joining the lawsuit Dec. 3, but Mayor Mike Moore says it might be too late since both states are awarding construction contracts.
